EC-1Ds focus screen on a 1D MkIII

I decided to get the 4x5 crop focus screen for my 1D MKIII to aid me in my cropping for 8x10s. I purchased the screens and after putting the screen in the body, I couldn't see the crop lines when testing. Thats when I actually looked at the packaging.... It's a EC-1Ds, not a EC-1D! Big blunder?:huh Can I assume I goofed on this and thats why I can see the crop lines? If thats the case, makes me wonder... how much of the focus screen actually gets used if I can't see the crop lines? I know the FF vs. 1.3 crop exists here, but does this mean that the outer portions of the focus screens don't get used? Or am I completely missing something here? If this screen just won't work in a MKIII body, guess you'll see these in the "House of Canon" section soon....

Thanks,
Lance.

Yes, the crop lines on the 2 screens, the EC-1Ds and the EC-1D are going to be different (1D for 1D bodies and 1Ds for 1Ds bodies) because the format in the 1D bodies is smaller. This will force the crop lines further out to the side, but I would think they should still be visible. Are you sure you have the screen oriented properly? (There is a key-tab so I think it will only go in one way.)

For proper 8x10 framing you must get the EC-1D "Crop Lines" screen kit (2 focusing screens) for a 1D body. Do make sure to orient it properly or the crop lines will be blurry. Only install the appropriate screen for 8x10.

Thanks for the help with this Ziggy, but I think I learned a small (pricey) lesson. Yes the screen was installed properly, I was surprised how easy it was. When I looked at the screen while it was installed and noticed the crop lines were outside of the square(?) frame. So I guess that answers my question about if the entire focus screen was used... guess not. Time to list them for sale.

    Thanks again,
    Lance.

Depending on where/how you purchased the screens, a lot of places will do an exchange.
