Moo Business Card size versus US Standard

For those in the US:

I was looking at using Moo for some business cards.

I noticed they only provide European size at 3.3"x2.17" versus the US standard of 3.5" x 2".

I really like the idea of different photos in a box and the integration with smugmug. Plus, the card may stand out. But I may have an OCD episode if the cards do not line up with other cards....:doh

I am curious about other folks experience and customer feedback about the size of the Moo cards.

Negative...positive...indifferent.

As always, your thoughts are appreciated.

Yes, it screwed me up a little. I already had a US template for my business cards and when I uploaded it to make the back of my Moo cards, it didn't line up at all. I had to go back and lay it out for the Euro size.

It is, of course, possible to have problems with the size for those who use business card holders that will be too small for Moo cards because they are US size. But I haven't heard any complaints from anyone I've handed them out to.

If you don't have any size issues, Moo cards are great, and the "portable portfolio" nature of them generates a lot of interest when you take out a stack, spread 'em out, and people see the variety. Because the fronts are different, some people like to collect more than one, and for marketing purposes it's interesting to observe how people react to different images and which ones they want to take.

There might be a better card on the Planet...but I haven't seen it. Whenever I give one of my cards (MOO) I KNOW it's the best card they've seen...then they touch it...sMOOth-er than silk!

I use the mini cards as much as possible. I always carry an assortment with me - both as a mini gallery and as a promotional tool. People LOVE THEM. Depending on to whom I'm speaking, I can select a card with an appropriate image.

For example, if I'm talking to you about shooting your new baby - I've got a pic. of that. If we're discussing your prize bull commercial shot? Yep - got one of that too. See what I mean? So I give the potential customer the appropriate card to illustrate that I can meet his or her needs.

Just ordered my first cards from Moo. Didn't see any options for US v European sizes and never noticed problems before although doing business in both continents. Looking at my card file it seems that there is no such thing as an exact standard, lots of minor variations.

Moo looks good. Reasonable price. Very easy to upload a few photos. Can't wait for delivery!

I suppose my only concern now is about the lamination. Apparently you cannot write on them unless your order the green variety. I know some people like to scrabble little reminder notes on cards .... next time maybe.

The size is becoming less and less of an issue. For me photography is a hobby but I still have Moo cards. The Moo cards fit in the same biz card holder as my "US Standard" biz cards as work. And since we do international business, I have cards in the European size and they are working in the same holder. It seems that the card holder manufacturers are getting better about the world economy and not making it as much of an issue.

When I give the Moo cards out in the US, more people are busy looking at the images than at the size. When I give the Moo cards out in Europe, more people are busy looking at the images than at the size.

The biggest suggestion I have is to not place the cards in your wallet just from a perception point of view. People will not value them as much if pulled from a wallet versus from a card holder. Just my US$0.02.

I have been making my own cards for a while now out of whatever cool matte paper I have laying around. But I think it is time to lose the American Pyscho looking card and go with some Moo cards. I got one from a guy once and was blown away by how cool it was. It rode around in my wallet for 6 months and still looked good.

I'm not going to take a business card holder everywhere, so I always keep a couple in my wallet. I think the Moo cards are quite well made and do hold up in a wallet well. Still, I consider the wallet cards a last resort and try first to hand out from one of the many small piles I've stashed in various bags and jacket pockets. This diversity of sources seems to work better than tracking and not forgetting to bring one card holder.

Although I really like the quality of the Moo cards, I found the larger size to be a problem for business associates. I do a lot of business networking and have several referral partners. We carry each others' cards in professional business card holders which we take everywhere with us. Unfortunately, the Moo cards don't fit, so my referral partners aren't able to carry my cards with them. I had to switch to standard-sized cards.

Also, I attend various business meetings and member cards are kept in a 3-ring binder using standard business card sleeves. Again, the Moo cards don't fit so I had to cut them down to make them fit. After I ran out, I decided to just order from someplace where I could get regular sized cards.

For my clients who don't care about putting my cards in a card holder, the Moo cards were great.

And I do love the mini cards.

Andy, I went to order more business cards from Moo and found they are having a major issue: http://www.moo.com/blog/2010/11/04/a-difficult-day-for-moo/ Their contact link wasn't available when I last checked. Do you know anything about this and if it's affecting orders/delivery?

    Thanks.

    Different sizing on MOO Cards
It was awhile before it registered with me what was different about the cards, besides the obvious (quality, thickness, smoothness, etc.!) But then I realized they don't fit in certain holders & said, "AHA! That's what it is!" & found this thread. Bummers. Yeah, I mean, personally... I do like the Euro size better; it's just a bit more useful & attractive format to my eye. However, the US size is what most of us are stuck with, and I think it's a bit of a shame that MOO is selling here & not mentioning that the size isn't a US standard. Some people are probably not very happy when they've spent the money & realize later they've got a strange size. I do think MOO should make it clear on their site that this is the case, and hope they introduce a US format sometime. People I handed them to didn't complain, but I'm sure they didn't notice the size unless they later went to put it in a holder where it didn't fit. I doubt people are going to exactly complain; it's just that more of the cards may end up in the trash if they don't fit with the rest of people's card collections.

    Bump??
I need more cards and still there isn't an update on Moo since Nov. 4 about their major problems. I'm concerned it might be a waste of time to place and order???

If you click on "dimensions", amongst the piles of other things on that page, yes, of course you'll get the size. But who has those dimensions in their head? You'd have to go dig up a biz card of your own & find a ruler. But nowhere is there something simply stating "European format" or something, right? You just see "business card", and how many people are going to go question that? You just assume it's standard business card size. Well, it is.... just not your country's standard if you're in the U.S.

Oh I see. Thanks - will keep it in mind. We've been getting nothing but raves on Moo cards since we've added them to the site. Personally, I love 'em and my favorites are the mini-cards, definitely not a standard size :D

But I'm not worried about being different....

Well, like I said, I too think they're gorgeous. And I clearly don't mind being different either. And Euro size IS prettier. Just think people would wanna know, because they def. don't fit in some of those holders.

I began to import my Smug Mug images over to moo last night to make some cards, and was a little disconcerted to see that it looks like the watermark traveled along with the picture. Can anyone confirm that when they get sent to the printer the watermark does/doesn't appear? Or is this a case where I'm going to have to un-watermark my galleries for a few hours while I import images over to moo...and then turn on watermarking again?

I think, some one please confirm...

moo doesn't pull the images from smugmug until the time of printing. So, you'll have to unwatermark them until that happens. Better idea, just move (or copy) your moo images into a unlisted gallery and unwatermark that gallery.

BTW, I am absolutely amazed at the quality of the cards. There was also a problem with my order (that was absolutely my fault) and the got it fixed and reprinted immediately. OUTSTANDING customer service!
