How do copyright laws apply to photographing someone else's artwork painted on a building, wall, automobile, etc.?

You hold copyright to your image of the content. ie., they cannot demand you give them your image for their use. However, you cannot claim copyright on things in your image either, so you are limited on how you can use your image.

you are limited on how you can use your image.

This is what I was getting at. Can you expound on those limitations? Thanks.

You know, the regular copyright infringement type things. Google the rules.

If the main purpose of your image is to reproduce someone else's artwork, forget it. If not, you should have a lot of latitude.

Seriously, though, a web search is your friend here.
