Recently at a wedding I was shooting my beloved canon 24-105 lens was acting up it kept sticking then eventally just stuck after I pressed the shutter. I actually thought it was my camera so I put it on my other one then pressed the shutter and again failed!

Has anyone had this happened to them I loved that lens it was my go to and now I gotta buy another one, just wondering if this happens often?

If I understand correctly you have tried your Canon EF 24-105mm, f4L IS USM on 2 different bodies and it fails on both bodies?

If that is correct then yes, it sounds like there is a problem with the lens. I suggest sending the lens to Canon Service for repairs. They will give you an estimate of the repairs which you may either authorize or not authorize, depending on the costs and condition of the lens. It is likely that Canon can repair the lens at less than the cost of replacement. If the lens is within warranty the repairs should not cost at all, and the only cost would be for shipping.
