I really like the BW version. Personally I liked the volleyball net. Says something about the deserted beach. I agree with taking out the trash can though.
Whatever happened to sunny southern Cal?
Cheers!

I like the B&W version best. Gives it a more moody tone...
david_h, that's what's known as a "marine layer" and is far too common in sunny SoCal especially in the mornings! It usually burns away by the afternoon, but not always.

Since you said you didn't try curves, I - with all due respect - tried some for you.
Here - LAB, both a/b curves simply steepened to almost exactly "/" character angle (symmetrical, both A and :
It changed the mood a bit, brought more "sunset" rays, if you will...
I hope you don't mind me playing with your image..

Living on the coast myself, I like the vegetation, the light tans, and the "fog" or mist on the hills, I think some of that gets lost in the B&W version.
It's a good shot, and well worth extra attention.

Besides, I only wanted to show an idea of what could be done with LAB/curves, not to mangle with Angelo's picture..
Cheers, mate!

I really did like this version, it grabbed my attention, but for the long run, I like Nikolai's version best.
Whenever I show a shot, Andy usually suggests curves a bit. I don't know how much Nikolai did, but I do like his results.
Wonderful shot, Angelo!

I have worked on this shot a lot and have a final color and a final BW version. I'd appreciate your thoughts on them.
Here's the final color version:
