An Intro and a pic

Hey everyone! I'm a noob both here and in the world of digital photography. I had a couple of friends recently make me a smoking deal in a Canon 40D and Canon 70-300mm lens so the Pentax ME-Super has been laid to rest as my SLR of choice. So... I'm here to try to learn as much as possible about getting the most of my camera.

I spend a lot of time racing MX and offroad as well as scuba and skiing(Keep moving or die!) so naturally my interests lie around those bounds. I'm also interested in unusual perspectives and landscape photography. IOW, everything. ;)

Enough about me, here's a pic I recently snapped at the MXoN (Motocross of Nations) in Denver. This was my first real trip with the camera and I didn't get a lot of good shots but this one was one of the best.

    Welcome to dgrin!

MXoN was a pretty nice event to have in Denver and great to see the US finish #1!

Yes, it was. The patriotism displayed by all the various countries was really cool! Getting to watch Short perform at "home" was also a highlight!

Welcome aboard. Keep snapping away and reading the posts and you can learn a lot pretty quickly. Looks like you may have been shooting in full auto? If so, I don't find that it will give me fast enough shutter speeds for action stuff. Get it in AP, set your aperture and ISO as needed for conditions and I think you will see an improvement in your keepers.

Actually I was shooting in aperture priority mode IIRC... I got better results yesterday when I went out to the local track for some moto-time as well as shutter time.

Thanks for the advice, that's exactly the reason I joined-up here! thumb.gif

FWIW - the RAW image looks quite a bit sharper than this one so I'm not 100% sure what's going on...
