Looking for a keeper in Nyack, NY (valuable lesson)

Decided to go out and see what I can shoot in Nyack, NY.

Stopped for a cup of Starbucks, and really didn't see any people that were worthy of taking photo's of, and the best shot I got wasn't even a human- but rather a mannequin!

Sooo.. I decide I will leave, and a bit dismayed that I didn't get anything even resembling a keeper!

On the way home, I pass the convent at St Thomas Aquinas, and there's a big reflecting pond with a statue of the Blessed Mother.

My eye was struck by the red jacket and the serene location. I did a quick U-Turn, and decided to get that *one last shot* before I call it a day!

I'm glad I did:

Very sweet old lady, who struck up a conversatin with me.. said I looked just like her son-in-law, who I said must be a "handsome devil" and then she gave me a big smile and permission to take her photo:

I guess the moral of the story is not to give up.. because I was glad I stopped!

    Three super shots
#2 is my favorite, she seems lost in thought. The color is great, and the out of focus guy on the bench helps tell the story. Or am I reading to much into it? Also is it wrong that I think the mannequin is hot?
can't sing, can't draw, so here it is.

    Good persistence.

The first posts too large for me to view without scrolling...

I like the second with her and the wheelchair repeating the shapes of the benches. Consider a square crop to lose the left side and see if you like it.

For some reason I like the mannequin shot more...

Fixed.. and you should consider raising your resolution to 1024x768 or better.

Hmmm.. I'm surprised not too many comments on this thread of contrasting subjects and "getting that last shot" thing.

Yeah- we all end up old and are often set aside somewhere waiting to leave this earth.. but in those last years, there is beauty.. wisdom.. and often serentity.

Here today, gone tomorrow.. and no amounts of botox or oil of olay will help.

Yeah.. I considered cropping it, but that road seems to help allegorically.

I like #2 but would crop a bit off of the left while keeping the road. I agree, it is important for context. What does it look like in B&W?

Like #2; I would also crop the left edge until the bright square spot in the upper left corner was removed as it tends be a distraction, IMO. I also agree with rainbow that the grouped repeating shapes of 3 adds a nice balance.

    Hi MIsterb,
I think I realized something between this post and your answer to my post.
    You like centering things.

While 1 and 3 didn;t do much for me--I did like #2 but I kept thinking it's just not right. I agree that a crop is in order. I get what you are saying about the road being important, so maybe don't crop it all out. What I love is her wheelchair in contrast with the benches all facing the same direction--it's pretty awesome.
