The barrier Island I fish on is located on the Falcons fly path to the Gulf region. Yesterday I came apon this freshly painted and banded bird having a meal. Very beautiful to watch....still eating after the photo shoot!

Can someone explain the reason behind the paint to me? Banding, I can understand. The paint... Guess I should not say anything about that until I know why it is done.

    paint
It is my understanding that the paint allows a more accurate visual counting of the birds....as in a painted bird will not be counted twice. The research folks drive twenty miles of beach constantly this time of year counting birds.

Thanks for the explanation. I hope the 'paint' is temporary...

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
