Anyone remember about 13 months back when we got our first exercise from B.D. "Framing"--where we had to plant our feet in one spot not more than a few feet away, no zooming, fixed, and had to think of ways to frame a shot oh yes and the "model" had to stay put as well?
I was going through some of the shots from that exercise when I found this gem.
:rofl
Hyper saturated, Tilted,(B.D.s favorite part) centerd.
It was a good exercise and taught me how to work a scene and frame properly and in some instances to frame thinking outside the box.
This one is from last weekend. While the little boy was off to the side crying after his first time out pitching and doing poorly (you guys saw that set already) my little girl was on the pitchers mound. So after I shot the little boy I quickly fired of some shots of her.
I love how framing has become second nature to me. It's a pretty standard framed shot, but I like what I got.

I also like the saturated color look. The large bright area of sky on the left is a bit much. Burn that in a little and brighten the subject's face a little and you're there. Or leave it be. It is a nice memory, no??

hee hee Virginia, I thought the first was pretty bad, but i'm glad you like it anyway. I know my sister used it for her fb page for a while.
It is definately a good memory that first exercise, it's when things started to click for me.
The second one is getting added to my "slices of life" series.

The second shot troubles me because the child should be centered and the main "Raison d'etre".. and your framing and lack of centering makes her less of the subject and almost "second fiddle" so to speak.
Also- the processing is poor in #2.. usually it's better with your shots.
Thank.
I like shot #2 it brings me joy. I remember being kind of a miserable child so now I"m living vicariously through my kids (no pressure kids )

It was homework from over a year ago--the same month I first got my hand on my Olympus E620 when really all I knew was how to turn the camera on--I'm hoping I've come a long way .
The second shot I completely and totally disagree that she should be centered---no way! I've thrown down the glove and drawn a line in the sand.
Yes on the processing--i processed it in color and I went crazy on it--I didn't have access to the RAW file to reprocess the shot to b&w to post here so I went from crazy color processed to this version. But really this one was just supposed to be about the action caught on the fly,the composition (which we disagree on)--but yes I agree that it needs to be reworked for BW.

Yes if I could title it it would be "ground control to major tom" she looks like she's lifting off--I must have caught her right at the peak of the jump with legs extended. That's what I like about the shot too.
Thanks Richard.

I was honestly just doing a comparison from a year ago til today (comp wise) but you are not the first to say you like the comp .
If i remember correctly I think B.D. liked that it wasn't a standard comp but pretty much trashed the rest .
FWIW since I didnt' know what I was doing yet with my camera I shot the first one with my built in art filter called "color pop" or something like that-it just heavily oversaturates and I don't think you are really supposed to use it on people---
You know I still haven't lost that excitement--I remember being giddy shooting the "frame" shots. HOpe I never do.
