Walt Disney World: Other people's kids

On my recent annual pilgrimage to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, I found myself thinking a bit differently than I ever have, partly because of the pics I've seen in the P&J forum since I joined Dgrin. This different mental paradigm led me to do something I've never tried before - pics of other people's kids that looked cute or compelling. Still, I tried to remain as unobtrusive as possible, to avoid misidentification as a perv or stalker.

These are my first submissions to the Street/PJ forum.

#1 - Happy Fountain
This little girl was having a blast just allowing the fountain to soak her on a hot day, and the expression on her face was priceless.

#2 - Big S bus stop
Disney's All-Star Sports Resort began a rehab of the existing bus stops on my last day, and during the construction the temporary bus stops were spread out all over the main building, including this one near the hus letter S in Sports. This little girl took advantage of the S to find a comfy place for a nap

#3 - Magical Music (or Musical Magic, whatever makes your fountain squirt)
This little princess was actually conducting fountain at Downtown Disney like a symphony. None of the pics I took turned out as well as I'd hoped, because the fountain entered a slack period just as I started shooting. I think I also had the white balance set wrong, so they all look a little blueish.

What I said when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time: "The wide ain't wide enough and the zoom don't zoom enough!"

I think #2 has a lot of potential. The sleeping child makes the shot. I would crop out the pole and the woman on the right, maybe see if a square crop works on what's left. I would also rotate it a bit counter-clockwise.

As for the others, you could correct the blue cast in #3 easily in ACR or LR. I understand what you were going for, but I think you were a little too far to make the conducting apparent. The first one screams "crop me" and get rid of the--how to put it?--unflattering posture of the child at the bottom. rolleyes1.gif Since what you wanted was the other girl's expression, you might want to open up the shadows on her face as well.

    Yes in complete agreement.

Also, it's a pretty colorful scene and when I first looked at this post I missed the sleeping child until I read what you wrote. She definately makes the shot.

I wasn't pleased with how pixelated #3 got when I cropped it, so I tried cropping another in the series:

    #4 - Original

You are discovering the exciting world of discovery in street photography! So perhaps the best lesson is that you have to get much, much closer (so that you do not have to crop so heavily and lose image quality). At places like WDW, it is easy to take shots of others because every other person has a camera.

    Keep shooting and posting!
