I'm just wondering what everyone who used this lens thought about it. I hear it's decent, unlike the rest of Canon's 28-80/28-90/35-80 zooms.
I'm talking about the Mark I. It's USM. I think Canon went up to like Mark V with their 28-80s. I hear the Marks II-V are really cheap and bad.

The only Canon 28-80mm that I have any regard for is the EF 28-80mm, f2.8-f4L USM. I have one and it is a very good value in high-quality standard zoom lenses. The other, lower cost, lenses that are sometimes used, that have reasonable quality, are the EF 28-105mm, f3.5-f4.5 USM* (the model II especially as it has a 7-blade diaphragm) and the EF 28-135mm, f3.5-f5.6 IS USM.

*(Specifically "not" the EF 28-105mm, f4-f5.6 USM)

I use an EF 24-85mm, f3.5-4.5 USM as my backup lens and I would also recommend it over the consumer 28-80mm zooms. It has pretty good contrast and fast and accurate AF. The 24mm end is also more suitable with crop camera bodies including both APS-H (1D series) and APS-C (crop 1.6x, xxD, xxxD, xxxxD bodies and the 7D).

Yeah, I've never heard of that 28-80L. I'm sure it's a great lens, having the L status. The one I'm talking about is similar in design and quality to your 24-85. Here it is:
