Hiking on the Blue Ridge yesterday, we and this this beautiful coyote crossed the fire road at the same time, but from opposite directions. As I scrambled to snatch the camera off the Cotton Carrier, I was already bemoaning that I had the 24-70 mounted instead of the 70-200 or 70-300. Fortunately he stopped for a sec to check out the trail marker ("Stupid humans! What's the matter? Can't they smell?") and I got something other than a butt shot. Made my day!

Thanks Ric. Your opinion carries a lot of weight with me.

    The wide shot is nice
To me, part of the apeal of the photo is the landscape. It makes me want to go walk in the woods.

    Your welcome, John.

I have a shot of a coyote chasing geese with my 400 that doesn't show the coyote as well as your shot does. So...it ain't the lens but Murphy's Law!!!

Thanks everyone. Yes, I do feel quite fortunate to have seen this marvelous creature, and to have had an opportunity to photograph it. This was at around 3200 ft elevation, and the leaves were about as colorful as we're going to get this year. Things should be getting more vivid now in southwest Virginia, and then into North Carolina and points south. GO FOR A WALK!!!

38-31.16N 078-26.60W. We weren't actually on blue blazes.
We were on the Appalachian Trail (white blazes) just south of Big Meadows, crossing the (blue-blazed) fire road that comes off Skyline Drive, between the Big Meadows Wayside and the Tanners Ridge Overlook.

This is not an area where you want to let your cute teacup-toy-puffball genetic freak run loose. He is likely to become a snack for a real canid.mwink.gif

Thank you Debbie! That's a nice coyote image you have in your gallery too! The one where he's glaring at you over his shoulder.
