Roadrunners lower their body temperature at night to conserve energy. In the morning they ruffle their feathers, and turn their backs to the sun to warm up.

Wonderful shot of the roadrunner. You hit his eye perfectly. Never knew they could lower their body temp. That's interesting.

    Howdy Gary,

Another rendition of one of my Favorite Birds.

I'd read somewhere that they Roadrunners have a dark patch on their backs and they fluff their feathers to expose that patch to help warm them up on the cool or cold days.

    Great Catch!!!
    Take care,

Hi. I agree - excellent focus on his eye - and an interesting tidbit of information. Must remember that - you never know when the topic might come up:D
