If you are a resident of northern New England or are up here on a vacation, there are several photo exhibitions in Maine that may interest you.

The Portland Museum of Art is running the exhibition "Debating Modern Photography: The Triumph of Group f/64" through December 5. If you plan on attending, I recommend you do some reading on Group f/64 if you are not familiar with their place in photographic history. The exhibition features photos from the Pictorialist style as well as from Group f/64. We especially enjoyed being able to see works by some of the less exhibited, around here, artists from Group f/64. We both liked the smaller works from Sonya Noskowiak that were included. Well worth seeing.

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport is running "Photographing Maine: Ten Years Later". This also runs through December 5. This exhibition is restricted to works by contemporary Maine photographers. The web site for the exhibition has a link to pdf containing four photos by each of the photographers in the show.

Also in Rockport; Maine Media Workshops is featuring "Going Forward, Looking Back: Practicing Historic Photographic Processes in the 21st Century". This exhibition runs through November 19. There is not much information about the show at the MMW site. A good description of the show can be seen at the University of New England art gallery website.
