Can these be used together? I believe the LaC can charge anything, but just checking.... thanks in advance!

ETA: ALso, does anybody have a source for La Crosse *batteries*? Plenty of links to the charger, but none to AA's on their own. I'd happily have some more - they hold their charge well and last a long time.

EATA: Or any other brand recommendation - thanks!

Yes, I've used eneloops in a LaCrosse charger - works great! Can't help you with more La Crosse branded NiMH batteries... I've been gradually replacing failing batteries with new eneloops - I love how long they hold a charge "on the shelf".

dm there's a recent thread here on the topic of batteries and rechargers in which Overfocused, I think it is, has some informative comments. As a result of that thread mainly I bought Powerex and the top Maha recharger. However the eneloops were also given a good wrap.

Syl Arena just published the results of his batteries testing with flash, which is also interesting, and also entertaining.

I'll try to track down links.

Thanks boys! Eneloop seem to be the way to go. How long do they take to fire up in the LaCrosse's fastest setting? One of the things I really like about the LaC batteries is they can grab a charge in an hour when necessary, which is v useful....

My understanding is that quick charging stresses the batteries, shortens their life etc. Only to be used in an emergency. Otherwise the slow recharge-conditioning is best. Of course, one has to be organised and in front of the game...!eek7.gif

FWIW, while I use a few eneloops, I found the Tenergy brand R2U "ready to use" 2300mah batteries far more cost effective yet comparable and otherwise equivalent to the eneloop's long term storage features.

I have been using Tenergy R2Us for almost two years now, in flashes, grips, and the numerous high-drain toys my grandson plays with and have not had even one failure ... I dedicated one "set" of 24 to photography, and the other set of 24 to his toys. Hey, at a buck each it has already saved bundles in the toy use alone, and even if I do not use them for a month or two in the flashes, they are still fresh and ready to use.thumb.gif

I use a laCrosse or Maha c9000 (better than the LaCrosse IMHO) to keep them charged.

They go on sale fairly regularly and can be found at about a buck apiece, but even not discounted they are only about US$1.50 each. Look for coupons for free shipping or price discounts, though. At that price they could be considered throw-aways, so losing one is not a big issue; you can read specs here, as well as order: http://www.all-battery.com/cardnimhaa2300mahreadytouser2urechargeablebatteries3cardstotal24xaa.aspx

I just checked, and they are currently on sale at Shop4Tech if you purchase by Oct. 23rd using coupon code "NL15" to drop the price for 12 to $14.18; with free shipping that's $1.18/battery but the coupon expires in two days: https://www.shop4tech.com/item8727.html?r=500

I have purchased from both companies, and while delivery can be slow at times if dropshipped, I usually receive my order within the week.

Oh, disclaimer: other than having ordered product from the above two places and being a satisfied customer, I have nothing to do with them or Tenergy in any way.

^^^ THANK YOU! That's great. I was just about to drop $20 on 8x eneloops at Amazon but was waiting till Ihad something else to buy so I'd get free shipping. Your deal above has just saved me $10 or more (and means I get 4 extra batteries)! thumb.gif

I think you will find them to be excellent batteries, Divamum.

FWIW, I also keep them stored in some special holders, a bit more costly than plain storage boxes, but I can tell at a glance which set I wish to use (by color) and if a cell is to be charged (slide it back into place "upside down"). Cells latch in securely and slide out with only a slight effort, and the connection points are well protected so there is no shorting ... I found them originally at an aircraft pilot shop, which was what they were originally designed for — aircraft/safety.

I have several of these AA holders (a couple "SlimLine" 4-cell holders picked up at trade shows) and four (one of each color, black, red, flourescent green, and yellow) of the 12 cell holders and find them almost essential to my battery management procedures. See the 12 cell AA holders here: http://www.powerpax.net/products/12-pack-battery-caddy/.

For your convenience, here's a link to the 4 cell holders at the same site: http://www.powerpax.net/products/slimline-aa/

As mentioned in the above post, disclaimer: I am just a satisfied buyer and longtime user of this product from this company.

Eneloops can be had at Costco for $25 for 8AAs and 4AAAAs and a charger! I just want the damn batteries though. But this seems to be the most cost effective I have seen.

I really like the Eneloops. I think I have had the same 8 or 12 or whatever I have for a few years now. They are still going strong. And it is really nice how they do hold a charge forever. They are great in flashes, but they are great in other stuff too. Like a mouse or a remote control.
