Hiding and protecting some galleries?

Hey all. I want to make sure I am doing things in the recommended manner. I have some galleries that I want no one to have access to ever, some that some pictures can be accessed, and some that are wide open.

1. Galleries with no access.
- Is the correct way to "Unlist" and "Protect with Password" the gallery? This seems to keep other users out but I no longer get the album preview image when I am logged in. Instead I get an ugly Protected image. Is there a better way?

2. Galleries with some access. I am not sure if it is even possible to protect a gallery and then allow access to a few images in it? If it is not, then that means I will have to create two albums, one with all my images (protected) and one with a few repeat images (wide open). Is that right?

3. Wide open galleries. Not really any questions on this one. I will either leave them listed or I may unlist them.

Thanks!
