Yes, as a matter of fact they are not only fresh, but "wild." We came across an ancient abandoned orchard on a hike in the Blue Ridge last Sunday. Only one tree was really fruiting, but I have never seen so many apples on the ground, and they were delicious. It was either glean or leave them for the deer and coyote. We gathered so many my rucksack was painful to carry after a while. In addition to the pie, we've put up quite a bit of applesauce. :eat
