Hi, from time to time I have used watermarks without any problem. Today I uploaded a custom watermark to try out, but when I enabled watermarking and selected MY watermark, the result is that all images in the gallery have a big "Proof" across the center (I'm guessing this is the Smugmug watermark?). For some reason this keeps appearing despite the fact that I select my custom watermark from the dropdown, not the smugmug watermark. Any ideas?

What is set under gallery settings will apply to all new uploads.

Go to tools > many photos > more > watermarking
    Select new watermark
Check select all > click watermark
It will take some time for them to all change to show the new watermark.

That's what I did. The problem is that the watermark that appears is not mine which I selected, but instead a big "proof" across the image which I'm guessing is the smugmug watermark which I did not select.

    removing unwanted watermarks thoroughly

It seems to me this problem is related to the fact that there aren't enough choices when one is originally creating a gallery. Right then is where watermarking should be chosen. Cuz what seems to happen is that if you've had watermarking turned on in enough other galleries, it starts doing that to you (putting that ugly PROOF thing) on the photos, or an old watermark you used to use, in the minutes during uploading & before you've gone into "Settings" to set it the way you want. And then about all you can do to truly & thoroughly get rid of the unwanted one from every single size photo that may get viewed is: go into Tools> Many Photos>watermarking. Select all the photos. Tell it to remove all the watermarks. Give it time.... like a couple hours. Then go back in there to the same tool and finally choose/add the watermark you want.

It's clunky, but it's about the only thing that will keep you from finding phantom unwanted PROOF watermarks on certain sizes of your photos. In fact, the Smug guru who talked to me about it & finally solved all this for me, told me to remove the unwanted one twice!! before adding the correct one. PITA. Yes. Usually removing it once will work, but not always on all copies. I still find stray ones on the galleries that I didn't do it twice.

All I ever had to do is add the new WM, it replaces whatever is there now.

I mentioned this years ago, creating a new gallery and the add photos page
showing up doesn't allow the settings necessary under gallery settings. Best
example is uploading family photos into a passworded gallery. They are
exposed to the public until you add the gallery password. Everything would be
perfect if a predefined quick settings was used but that doesn't always
    happen.

There needs to be a red warning box on a new gallery upload page reminding
to set gallery password, watermark, thumbs, etc. before upload, essential
    things like that.

Allen, are you sure it always replaces whatever is there on all sizes in every gallery? Here's what happens to me: I rarely look at my photos in anything but the size/view (large?) that's there as the main preview in SmugMug style, as most of my galleries are set to Smug style and I have little need to see my photos in any other size. Sometimes I might click on it to make it Xlarge, to clarify something I'm seeing in the photo, or look at the quality. But other visitors to my galleries do often view other sizes.

So I'm often not aware of the fact that there is, say an X2 size showing that "PROOF" watermark, or an old watermark I used my first year or so here. I only become aware of it if I look at that gallery in slideshow view, or happen to click on it (often by accident). Or sometimes I learn this when copying and moving the photo, and presumably this is because the copy is made from a size that still has the old watermark. Slideshow view is really the most common way I've discovered these remnants by accident. The guy I talked to completely understood what was going on with this and why, and how to fix it, and also admitted it was a painstakingly slow process. I don't recall the exact mechanics of "why" anymore; only remember the fix.

What watermark on your site are you selecting, please? Can I have a link to that watermark in the gallery, too?
