Love the eye detail :-) Anyone know what the little bright red blob is just above the stinkbug's eye? - It looks just like the red blobs on Brian V.'s photos of the bubble blowing shield bug, but what are they for?

    Stink Bug??

I would guess using a reflected flash source should soften the flash highlight. What type of flash & setup were you using?

Regarding the Stink Bug....unless you're in their native Asia habitat, I hope you killed it afterwards. They are such a nuisance this year.

I was using a Nikon D-80 with a Nikon SB-600 and 105vr Macro lens with Kenko tubes. I have the camera set up like most of the guys, lite down at the end of lens and so on.
I never kill a bug, just can't do it. I let it go back to where I found it.

Phil, I crooped one or two of them just a little. Would it help to crop more? Thanks for the kind words.

    Looking good - esp like ~2 & #5.
You can't really stop flash reflections on things like ladybirds- just make them not overexposed and wider and softer using more diffusion.

Josh - that's a simple eye on the shieldbug - most insects have 3 of them - called ocelli - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_eyes_in_invertebrates

WTF is wrong with you? This isn't the right hobby for you if you could even consider that.
