Selective Focus

I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on these two shots. I have a selective focus assignment and have narrowed it down to these two. They were both shot at F/1.8, 1/100sec, 75mm on a D70.

thanks in advance,

Christine

Not a whole lot to say, except good work, you obviously know what your'e doing.

My one question would be that I wonder if the pencils might be better if you focused on the one that's different than the rest? Right now there's two that are different. One because it's a different kind of pencil, and the other because it's the only one in focus. Maybe the one white pencil could serve both purposes? That might give a clearer focus of the image.

To my eye, the selective focus isn't as apparent with the pencils as with the pear. Very nice shots, BTW.
