Canon XTi file format settings?

OK... I admit that I can't find the function in the user's manual.

When I'm using my XTi, it saves most files in .JPG format, but some will mysteriously save in Photoshop format. What setting should I adjust to make sure it saves in one or the other every time? Thanks!

The Canon XTi does not save in any Photoshop specific file format, but you can save as either JPG or Canon RAW files with the CR2 suffix. More than likely CR2 files will automatically open with Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), which is a front-end RAW converter for Photoshop.

Just select JPG as the file format if you don't want to post-process in ACR/Photoshop. Choose RAW format when you are unsure about white balance or when you have other difficult lighting conditions, or anytime you want the ability to make the very most of what your camera can offer through post-processing.

On the rebels if you have the picture quality set to raw in the picture quality menu it will record in raw when shooting in creative modes on the dial, and in jpeg in the basic image mode.
