Headed up to the "Kurama Fire Festival" a week or so ago and thought I would share the photos. This is probably the best and most interesting festival with the while village coming out and taking part. If you go, make sure you are able to stay after the last train, as that is when all the really interesting stuff happens.

Amazing...I am left to wonder though...how come ISO 400 only? Looking at these, I would have though it would be ISO 1600 or above.

And with your 1.4 you focus remains tack sharp! I must be doing something wrong. I have 2.8 and at ISO 400 my images are noisy/blurry even at 1/60th!

So...what's your secret sauce? Tripod or monopod?

Hey, thanks for the comment. Not really sure what I am doing that is any different or special. I know the light from the fires was really quite bright, so I had no problem shoot at 400. Plus the 1.4 might be giving me a fair bit more light to play with then your 2.8. And no, I didn't use a monopod or tripod, gets in the way too much with all the other people there.

Oh ya, I also use the single point focus to pick where I want to focus so that might help with the focus with the 1.4.

    Hope that helps!

bowdown.gif These are just incredible and I love the warmth and drama caused by firelight after dark.

Any commentary on what they do or why they do this festival?

Sorry, but pretty much all I could say is what is written at the link provided above here. Wish I could get a little more into it for you, sorry.
