Hi guys, this is my first time to post here at the gear section. I am anticipating a delivery of a Nikon D60 soon. Care to provide your feedback on its performance both on picture quality and reliability? thanks in advance! :thumb

Reliability: No Problems so far but I dont use it that much either.
Picture quality: Decent though ISO performance is not great. I try not to go over 800
Focusing is ok in decent light with fast lenses. In the dark with lower end lenses the focusing system isnt so good. However, I use the D300 and D700, so I may have different expectations. (Actually, I think i like the AF system on my N80 film camera more.)

But it is small and lightweight so put a small, light weight lens on it (preferably something faster than f2,8:) )and go shoot.

I recommend that you set it for full auto and after taking pictures, look at the settings the camera used. From there you can move to the 'A' mode (Aperature) and use that to get some more control over your camera. there is a wealth of information about using DSLR's out there....so take advantage of it.

As was already mentioned, the biggest weak point is the high ISO settings. ISO 800 is usually fine, above that is emergency only territory. The 3 focus points can be limiting in some situations, leading to more focus-recompose than with other cameras. Active D-lighting is useful in high contrast situations, but leads to long processing times between shots. Learn to use it when it will be useful, and keep it off the rest of the time.

If you need a great guide, Thom Hogan's guide is excellent. http://bythom.com/d60guide.htm It is what the manual should be. Very detailed guide to all of the settings, when and how to use them.

One of the best lenses to pair with it is the 35mm f/1.8 DX. Good price, great lens, makes a very good combination. That's usually the lens on my D60 with something else (depends on what I'm shooting) on my D200.
