Happy birthday to me....

Posting this here since this is my "home" forum at dgrin (thanks Ivar, for indulging me!)

Those of you who follow Strobist may remember his invitation a couple of weeks ago for people to join him in a philanthropic project tomorrow, Nov 2nd. I'm happy to say that I was one of the lucky dozen who were selected to join the project (talk about "being online at the right time on the right day"!).

So, having yesterday opened my humongo-good-grief-what-was-I-thinking Poe recital series (went great, I'm glad to say, and the AMAZING photo that Llywellyn took for me received a ton of compliments and I'm sure contributed to the interest generated in the project), tomorrow I switch hats and go do this all-day shoot. On my birthday :D :barb

I'm very excited, even though terrified - this is with the big kids and definitely called "stepping outside my comfort zone" (read: I'm just hoping there are opps to shoot people at work onsite because I'm not sure I really know enough about shooting buildings and landscapes :rofl)

Anyway, just wanted to share!

    It was a BLAST. A very cold blast until about 11am, but a blast (thank goodness I never clear out my car or I'd have been in deep do-do because it was WAY colder than I thought it was going to be! Thankfully, last year's gloves/hat still in the boot rolleyes1.gif).

    VERY VERY different from my usual shooting in requirements, content and results, but sooo much fun. David Hobby is even more amusing and delightful in person than his lively and coherent writing if that's possible, and he's a wonderful teacher - if you ever have the chance to meet him and work with him, grab it! thumb.gifbowdown.gif

    Thanks Briandelion!!! It was a lot of fun. I'm not sure I'll ever make a "real" landscape photographer - I can't tell you how strange it was to LOWER my ISO and ~gulp~ stop down (in 90% of what I do "stopping down" seems to mean anythign above about f4!!) - but it was really fun to see how the guys who really know about it handled their shots. My only regret was that I couldn't stay till sundown; because of the elections the junior division was home, so I needed to leave around 3 instead of stay til the very end.
