It's been a LONG time since I posted in this forum...too long! Good to be back!
Instead of buying my 5 year old Harry a Disney camera when he started begging for one, I thought I'd first dust off my old 20D, show him what to do, and see what happened. He's grown up around "mommy's cameras" so he's conditioned to be careful (or else!) However, was a bit anxious when he asked to take "his" camera to a family get together, but he did great. He walked around and politely asked folks if he could take their picture. It was soooo cute to see him in action! :lust
All were in Av mode, 85 1.8 at F2.8, SOOC with minor contrast bumps.
1. I'm not sure she actually said "yes" :rofl
2. Ummm, that's a firm "Awww mannnn!"
3. I was really shocked by his compositions in some! :lust
4. One of Great-Grandpa who is notoriously camera shy (note to self: no one tells a 5 year old who asks to take your picture NO!)
And a few "action" shots...what a weird feeling! Shooting my little guy shooting. I felt like a Dad watching a first touchdown or something! :rofl
5.
6. CHIMPER!!!
7. The shot he showed her:
Just for fun...four years ago this fall I made my first post to dgrin with this shot!
We feel like we've grown up with DGrin!
Comments welcome. If you have C&C I'll pass it on

Thanks Nik! I'll try to convey to him the awesomeness of the famous Nikolai comparing him to Richard Avedon.
Thank you Diva
Oh wow, the pressure is on! But I've definitely been thinking about what kind of project we could both start that would introduce (and build on) both of our skills. Any ideas would be welcome
Aww Trudy, you are so sweet! I'm really excited about how this will bring us closer as he gets older!
Thanks for commenting Rey!
Hi Stranger!!! Thanks for commenting! It's going to be fun to show him all the comments as he's just starting to read.

I'd say let him start to learn composition first before the science of perfect exposure. More like teaching him how to "see" as a photographer, what is his "theme" whenever he picks a certain subject to photograph. later on, he'll actually critic himself and say "this does not appeal to me. The lighting is poor and looks flat." Then, that's the time that he will start studying in depth about exposure, lighting, effects, and everything. It's a long process but eventually he will get there. Tell him that he's lucky to have a father like you. thumb

I like the idea of composition first. THanks for the suggestion!
I'm definitely not his father though!
After 5 years of me shooting him, I finally got to be in front of the camera!

If I may... "tell him that he's lucky to have a very supportive mom like you."

I can hear him now.............I started photography when I was 5 years old when my mom gave me an old Canon 20D DLSR. I know, not many remember that old technology, but it's what got me started.

Harry is pretty sneaky to be able to catch a fellow photog in his viewfinder....seeing as most of us MUCH prefer to be behind the camera!!!:D
He is a pretty good shooter Lynne...but of course....he gets it honest.
I really like that you included the shot from your first post.
Thanks for sharing and tell him Id like to be his agent ...just in case any one wants him second shooting on the cheap.
Now....
Why have we never had a "Kids of dgrin" thread....where we all pile in with shots of the kiddos?
