Today's Popular Photos - missing photos

I have noticed that pictures that were in Today's Popular Photos earlier were later missing the same day. I haven't noticed this until recently (a few weeks, maybe). It seems to occur more in some communities more that others. For example it happens regularly in the 'birds' community and less in others. It there an explaination for this?

    Natural voting (thumbs) up and down can affect this. Also gallery owners changing privacy settings can affect it.

    If a photo is really bad I could see a 'thumbs down' possibly happening. When seeing other photos that were still in the 'popular photos' that were not nearly as good quality, it seems that a 'thumbs down' was unlikely unless it was done maliciously. Could that be?

    In some cases they were my photos. In those cases I know that there was no change in privacy status.

    For these reasons I am still searching for a reason for photos to dissapear for the Today's Popular Photos.
