A Hike To The Ice Caves

In the Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington, the remnants of an glacier have eroded into 2 ice caves. The hike up to the ice caves is several kilometers but the walkway is very well maintained but, the grade can be a bit steep and washouts do happen.

This is the start of the hike from the Big Four picnic area.

The glacier is about 100 m tall and a tall house can easily fit into the mouth of the large cave.

A hiker died in a collapse just a few months ago so, I wasn't inclined to go into the caves at all. In fact, I did hear the ice crack once and having been very near an avalanche once before in the past, I kept a very respectful distance.
