    Thanks misterb,
I just wanted to show another side of Queens. I usually post the crazy congested side, but this is Queens too.

This is my new current favorite shot. So apple pie and All-American with the kids in soccer uniforms, the pizzeria behind them (though I wish I had gotten more of it, damn my 50mm lens!). I also like the conversation going on in the foreground. Could be anywhere USA.

The 50mm is giving you sharper, but is such a different beast for shooting street. I now prefer my 17 -40 over my 24 - 105 due to the wider end.

This is a nice slice of life depicting "Soccer Saturday" (though a little bluish for my tastes). The mystery woman adds intrigue to the shot enough for me to keep looking back at her for my info, which is not forthcoming...

i love my new lens but I definately miss the wider lens for street/pj.
I am not taking it off my camera though trying to force myself to use it in all circumstances. This shot would have been fantastic (IMO anyway lol) had I the entire quaint/old pizzeria in as well as some of the other players.

So what you are saying Rainbow is that I must go out and get a gf1 with 17mm 1.7--I hear you loud and clear, I think you may be on to something. rolleyes1.gif

As for the lady--she is a fitness guru and I'll not say anything else so that you can keep coming back to this shot :D.

I like the shot. The kids are great, especially with the reflections in the glass and a few people inside. All in all, though, the lady in the sunglasses, your fitness guru, is what pulls it all together for me.

I like this shot a lot, too. A nice slice of life.

I trust you are going to do a book of photos of Queens one of these days.

Have you tried this one in black and white?

I am not a fan of the treatment, myself, but it brings to mind a lot of your other color photos so I almost recognize the photo as yours from the processing!!

So I say, if this is your style, stick with it. :-)

nod.gif I'm not a fan of retro color either. I'm starting to think that the people who like it didn't live through it. rolleyes1.gifBut don't let us get in your way. thumb.gif

    Thanks Virginia,
I think little by little I am getting a nice collection of Queens shots, my much underappreciated borough. I have a ways to go--I am waiting for a publisher to come knocking on my door :)

I did try the b&w which you know I love, but for some reason here lately I've been processing some color shots this way, and usually it involves children. I don't know why, but I like it.
I do like that you are starting to associate some of the color shots with me though.

    Thanks again.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.
I also didn't know this was a retro color, I just liked the look of it, maybe that's why I like it.

Indulge me for a while--I'm digging these colors.

I love the shot, Liz - It's got pretty much everything going for it. But for what it's worth, I'd either correct the color or convert to black and white. Call it 'retro,' call it whatever, I say's it's just plain 'off' - distracting from an otherwise terrific image.

    Thanks B.D. :D
    Here is the b&w conversion.

I do like the b&w version as well.

Between the two, I like the B&W version better. Your conversion skills are fantastic! Both shots are definitely winners, but this forum has taught me an appreciation for B&W.

That said...who are you taking the pictures for? If you're taking them for yourself, then do whatever processing you want. Heck, I have a soft spot for sepia, too! (I still gawk at your picture of the little league player).

About your question. They go into my series about the little moments in my life--I share them with my family at the end of the year--a big family here in the states and abroad and I've shared the gallery here in street as well.

But also I am starting a collection of some of the shots taken in Queens, from little league, to busy Roosevelt Avenue, and the different neighborhoods to show just how diverse this place is. I have always complained that it doesn't get enough love. It's always about Manhattan or Brooklyn. So as Virginia said, maybe I will get some images together from Queens to either submitt (to who I don't yet know) or to bound together in a book. I don't yet have sufficient images by a long shot.
Anyway, so it's not just for me, but maybe eventually for something bigger, so the tips to tone down my crazy processing help.

    I appreciate your comment.

    What about The Bronx? rolleyes1.gif

While serving in Germany, a cute German Fraulein asked me where I was from- said "New York" and she said "where in NY?" so I proudly said "The Bronx" and the girl exclaimed "ohhh- you are from the Ghetto!"

I am going to do a pictorial about the Bronx as well.

BTW- The Bronx is the only boro of NYC that is on the mainland.

The Capital Dome and Lincoln Memorial were made in the Bronx.

J-Lo and her well-defined Puerto Rican culo are from the Bronx. rolleyes1.gif
