    Thanks Gus
These are shot in raw at about 6:30pm
Then in Nikon Capture I set a gray point in the curves palette by finding a spot in the image that is 128. That usually will pop the blue. then in the auto color pallette I usually will hit auto (about the same as hue and sat layer in PS). That's about it.

I think the main thing here is the evening light :D

Some nice captures, Ben. I'm not sure I agree with the others on the blue. It is a nice blue...but IMHO not real "natural" looking. I'm hot sure I like it. Don't mean to knock your work..as it's usually pretty darn nice...but I've never seen blue water like that. It looks more like paint to me. Very nice blue paint. headscratch.gif Not a knock on you Nikon user's gear either..but I've noticed these wild blues especially in your's....Harry's and a few other 'kon user's shots. It's almost a signature look or tell tale sign of a Nikon user? (really I like Nikon gear myself ...and own some) The blues just look a bit over the top and unrealistic to me. ne_nau.gif I am not sold on the look (yet)?? Though cool looking...I'm sort of distracted by the unnatural colors. I know when I push saturation a bit too much..my waters turn a little bit funky and aqua. Don't know where I'm really going with this ....but just not sure I'm lovin' the blue paint these birds seem to play in all the time. Do like your work. thumb.gif

    That's cool Mike
but gotta tell ya that is how the water looks at that time of day/evening setting in. Just got the hang of that the other day. It also has to do with the angle you shot from. Mainly sun setting west and you shot south or north, make any sense ??
There is not much added sat. in my post maybe 2% at most otherwise it does get ugly :D
Oh, I don't think it's a Nikon thing, but if it is just another reason for you to change brands :lol4 :Dthumb.gif

Hey..if your water looks like that...I might have it checked out for alien life forms rolleyes1.gif I do understand what you bring up regarding angle of light/sun. I actually do get plenty of Western setting sun light. :D Some pretty amazing sun sets on the Gulf coast of the swamp. thumb.gif I hope you didn't take my comments in a nasty way. I just find my self looking at many photos that have these incredible blue waters. I quickly think "cool blue"..and then start wondering what was done.....why does this water look so blue..so unatural? Unfortunately it takes my attention/eye/thought away from the photo/composition. I'm sure that was not the intent. Hey..if that's the way it looks...who am I to argue. Just thought I'd mention the fact that despite it being a marvelous shade of blue.....it seems distracting to ME. I suppose it could be my eyes or monitor....or those wild drugs I'm on (pain killers). rolleyes1.gif:Dumph.gif

Honestly...I've seen tons of water in my day (yeah..I'm no spring chicken either). I've never come across any blue water like these shots. I guess I'll have to take a trip to Cali and see what's in the water to make it so blue....and the people so strange. rolleyes1.gifthumb.gif

I do notice in some of my shots....that given the right lighting conditions...and using digital cameras....you can end up with some rather funky and unnatural looking colors. I also notice that even the slightest changes in settings in photo edeting software....can drastically change colors from shot to shot. I try to not over do the settings/parameters. I can however come up with some really pretty purple great egrets if I try. :uhoh headscratch.gif

If you would care to send me a Nikon..I'd be happy to use it ALSO. I made the comment regarding your brand of camera ....only because I'm familiar with many of the shots here at Dgrin...and know the crazy Nikon users. I can spot a Nikon shot with one eye closed. I suppose I can say the same about certain Canon lenses. thumb.gif I'd be happy with ANY camera under the right light and with that "special" subject matter to shoot. A bad camera in poor shooting conditions is still better than a great day at work. clap.gif

Don't be blue...Ben. They are nice shots. :D

Excellent series Ben. I like the blue water too. Don't let those jealous Canon shooters get you down. rolleyes1.gif I seen blue water like that in Florida too. It depends on the time of day and my Corona consumption rate. :D

    Mike, Mike, Mike,

What are you doing buying a boat when there's glass to be bought? Canon has released ,what, 4-5 new cameras since you bought that outdated 20D. lol3.gif

I bought my first DSLR around 2 years ago and I upgraded just once since then. Andy got his first DSLR a few months after me and he has bought .......
to tell the truth I've lost count of how many Canon cameras he has bought trying to stay current. roflol.gif
