Take that Mr Passport

I was sooo ticked after the passport guys said "Oh nice photo, but we have to do your photo for you so they accept it for sure." And then he fried the flash, and botched the white balance on the pic that I "get" to have for the next 10 years. I came home and played to make myself feel better. No my skin isn't really orange like my passport implies.
(Wow, that sounded really gripey. I swear I am nice in person.) (And that ^ is not the one I attempted to use for passport.)

Love your shot! I get it though, a shot like that might distract customs officers.
Heather, you are bleepin' gorgeous - that is a STUNNING shot of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I should have gone to the post office prepared for him to do that. A local friend warned me that they did the same thing to her when she got her passport a bit ago.

Girl, you look beautiful - to say the least!!
That is tooo funny considering all the conversations we had about it too....
I'll show you mine if you show me yours.... haha! It is sooo bad!
When it got to the part where asked me if the photo was a fair representation of what I look like, I hesitated and he asked me why... I said, "Well yeah, except my skin is not orange in real life." He laughed. So did I. What could I do, I guess.
I'll risk copyright infringement and scan and share what the post office thinks the government will accept. (Yes that is a staple)
Very simple actually... one off camera speedlight through a 45inch brolly at about 45 degrees to my right and slightly raised position, pointing slightly down (loop lighting). I shot this with my 70-200, so I was happy to have my remote shutter release this time. (Finally. I forgot I had it on my last sp project.)
This IS too funny! As bad as I feel for you (and your photo is not even that bad - not as bad as mine anyway), I am happy that I was not the only one this happened to.
My "shoot" was a digital one, so I only saw it on the monitor. I gave myself 2 tries, and trust me, after I saw the second I was ready to burst into tears, haha! This is what WE get! We should make mug shots out of our passport photos
Well, since I didn't get my pic in print, I can't share (aww, too bad ), but I'll scan the passport pic for ya once I receive it
Not being vain, but I had a cute driver's license picture for a while, too. I can't figure it out either.
But as I said on FB, you're sexy, Heather!!

I love it that you can really see the difference that a bit of nice soft light and posing makes in the two photos... same clothes, makeup and everything.
What they did to you...sorry, that is just not a fair representation of how utterly gorgeous you are. Love your B&W SP!
I got a pretty decent photo done in China last year, and was thinking ahead enough to get ten of them, so I have a number of nicer looking certs and IDs now.

I know it is soo bad! (and thanks!)
Ok, so now it is your turn to share your successful passport photo. Jealous!
The post office photog/machine added a 3rd degree sunburn to my passport photo. Doesn't even look like me, either. I'll be sure to make extra time wherever I go because I'll probably be detained.

Haha! I do feel lucky the photo was accepted. The photo was part of an old SP I did during my dailies. I used the one in the top left corner (though I was sorely tempted to use the fishy-face one ) and changed the background color to comply. At least I look happier than in my previous passport photo...
As far as the actual passport photos go... Since my arrival to US I have been taking my own family "official" pics whenever I could (DMV being a notable exception since they do thiers mandatorily in-house). And while I'm not considering them to be my masterpieces (esp. those I took 10+ years ago when I didn't know "rembrandt" from "butterfly" :-), I did have *some* control over the final quality, so on average a DIY solution is relatively sound...
Great SP. Stunning.

Practice makes perfect. A friend needed a passport pic a few month ago. He came, I put up a couple of lights and a white 4"x3" 5-in-1 as a bg. We were done in less than 10 min. He was happy, and so apparently was a passport control, since he didn't have any trouble.
I admire those of you who do your own passport shots - I just couldn't be bothered to mess with all the measurements before printing and in the end it was quicker and easier to have it done by Ritz. I usually look terrible by the time I get off a plane after an international flight anyway, so I expect the "bad" version is closer to what I really look like!!!!! (although that said, this last batch weren't too bad at all - and nothing like as nasty as the one poor Heather's been saddled with!!)
And I don't think they will be doing a CSI Wasilla anytime soon. Though with all the stupid TV shows they are doing up here now, who knows, haha.
I think half the problem with the photo they used is that I was totally flinching inside... I could just tell it was going to be a "winner" with the flash pointed right at me.... ouch.
Thanks guys.

It was much tougher before, now it's same rules as US passport. I went through the old process when I was going through my H1B --> GC saga... :cry
