Ok been playing around with Macro and flowers.
Flower is from a Rose Of Sharon Bush.

What do you think of this?
Had trouble getting the red area in focus for some reason. :scratch
Set flash on Low for some fill flash.
Did USM in CS2.

    Jim,

This is a tricky shot. It seems that only the stem is in focus here, which is not a problem in itself. What makes it a problem is the lack of contrast between the stem and the background. Perhaps you should make the composition so that the stem is entirely projected on the the red pieces of the petals. That will give you contrast and the picture will have lots more depth.

    Hope this helps :D
    Cheers
*In my mind it IS real*

With a stamen that long, close up with the very thin DOF of macro, you'll need a tripod for this because f8 is not small enough to get this shot fully in I'd recommend 100 ISO, manual mode, at least an f11 maybe lower and use the exposure meter to set the shutter speed.
