I have 4 - Sigma 5xx DG Super flashes and I do indeed like them. I also have a Canon 580EX and I like it a lot too.

The Sigma flashes have a completely different user interface so if you are looking for the Canon style interface you will be disappointed. I don't personally have any problems with the Sigma interface, but some folks do find it more difficult.

If your concern is wireless control, the Sigmas are relatively easy to set up but they do describe channels and groups a little differently from Canon. I have not done any serious tests for distance but I would rate the Canon 580EX as the best transmitter/master flash.

    I don't have a 7D so I can't comment about using it as a wireless master.
