In Sydney recently I took this 70+ megapixel panorama of the skyline on a really sunny day. Any comments on this (reduced size version) much appreciated!

Excellent shot(s). Where did you take it from? I tried something like that from the Toronga Zoo but my f707 is not up to scratch for that kind of work.

Great work. Sydey surely is a beautiful city. Looks like you were on a boat when you took this??

    Location of shots for panorama
Hi. In response to a couple of questions about the panorama, it wasn't taken from a boat (which would have had too much lateral movement I think for such a shot) but from near Mrs Macquarie's Point at the north east end of the Botanical Gardens.

The stitching app I used is PTGUI, which I highly recommend and which is also great for multi-row panoramas (though those can take a long time to render!).

    Happy shooting!

    Clean shot.

I'd also love to see this same shot captured during the 'golden hour' with a warm orange light reflecting off the buildings. Does the sun set or rise from behind where you captured this image?

Last but not least, what pano head or set up did you use?

    Fantabulous!!!!

I too would like to see it during the sunset or rise. Also a night shot would be nice if it can be done.

Its a very nice shot and great job on the stitching.

Beautiful - very nicely done. A twilight shot would be awesome.

    Panorama mount
Re what mount I used for the panorama - actually, none :)

I've hand-held all but one of my panoramas, that one being a 3 row, 6 column panorama of Bora Bora with a 20D.

I'm really impressed at how, with a bit of playing around with control points using PTGUI, I can usually get a very good result from a series of handheld shots.

Next time I'm back in Sydney I'll try an earlier AM shot for different light (this one was taken late morning).

In the meantime, here's a different shot. This time of Wellington, New Zealand, yesterday. For an early spring day, this was amazing weather!

    thdizzy,
the captured view faces north-east so it would have to be the sunrise. This is not that simple as there are some hilly suburbs to the east of center of Sydney, so the sun has to be relatively high to get equal light.

Very cool Jonathan. I visited Sydney back in 2001 and tried to take lots of pictures like this one but never got something quite like this. It's nice to be able to do this kind of thing with digital. The opera house, bridge, and skyline together make a great composition.

    Thanks for sharing!
