Took some shots while down in Florida of the terns and always like these birds for some reasons or other.

Hi Dan, thanks very much. And yes these were taken with the 500mm, was lucky to get the lens in the carry on camera bag which was nice otherwise I would had to take the 300mm and use the 1.4 converter with it.

I haven't pulled the trigger on a 500 yet. Still using the 300 and 1.4

Low fliers...or did you have a nice vantage point?

    Very well done, Dennis. thumb.gif

Dan, that combo with the 300 and 1.4 works very well in fact I was suprised at the results with that combo. When I sold all the Canon gear I used the money to buy the 500mm with the funds from the sell. At times I wished I brought the 300 with the TC with me, but no extra room in the camera bag for it.

Ric, a bit of both really. We found a spot were the tide was out and walked out on the mud flats to this spot in the corner and was able to get closer to them. Plenty more images from the Florida trip to post, and started out with these ones first.

    Excellent set Dan. thumb.gif

I love the 500mm but I have gotten excellent results with the 300mm f/4 and TCs. The 300mm f/4 gives me the best bang for the buck out of all my lenses.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Thanks Harry for the comments.

I had the 300mm f/4 down in Florida last year and was very suprised even with the TCs on, but this year decided to bring the 500mm with me and was great to have, but there were times I wished I had the room for that 300mm. I think you are correct about that 300mm giving the best bang for the buck.

    Love that 2nd capture!

Thanks Ira, that second one is the winner for the simple reason that the beck is shown in fulll where the others are covered by the wings.
