There was a neo-N*** rally in Phoenix, AZ on Saturday. I knew it would be an interesting experience!

(The publishing of these photos should not be misunderstood as an endorsement of any group or their actions in these photos. I was merely documenting the event.)

I am struck by their youth! They are practically children.
Also although there is tension in #1, it just seems like such a tiny amount of protestors for the kind of police reaction they got (size wise).
They all have their face covered except for the last shot with the guy in the suit--is he a protestor? how odd. The last one also makes me chuckle with all the cops in reflective eyeware:)

Out of curiosity, why can't you spell out nazi?

Wish you had more...I want to see the size of this protest.

    Thanks for sharing.

These are an excellent set of the event. I like the first with the face-off between the police and protesters. I am trying to figure out what she is carrying. It looks like a rolled up poster to hit them on the helmet with.ne_nau.gif

If you come at cops in NY with a stick (like shot #1) you are in for a world of hurt.

Thanks! I have many many more photos, but I've been swamped with work and have had little time to process them.

I should have put captions on the photos. The first 3 shots are of the protesters. The last shot is of the Nazi group leader and the men with reflective glasses are fellow Nazis.

Thank you! She was carrying a piece of wood. They banged them on the ground while walking toward the police. The group of Nazis are behind the police.

Well, she got a good dose of pepper spray from the police. I missed the shot of it as I was dodging the pepper spray!

Great set in general but for me #3 is one of my pics of the year. Outstanding!!! The juxtaposition of their relative 'shields' is genius. And it just struck me that this kid should appreciate a phalanx of heavily armed, humorless, authoritarian, mostly white guys more than anybody eh?

I like this set as well, and you did an amazing job of capturing it. You managed to capture the protest without really 'favoring' one side or the other. You managed not to paint the police as brutally beating the poor unarmed protesters. You also managed not to make it look like the heroic policemen defending the populace against the bloodthirsty mob. You managed to tell a story of the protest in a very neutral, unbiased manner. Photographing a scene like this without 'taking sides' is very difficult. I applaud your efforts there.

And the photos themselves...very, very good. I like #3 as well. The kid looks like he's mocking the phalanx. Just funny. Though I do have a question about #3. In the background, you can see someone holding a sign. What does the sign say?

This is the sign in the background. The Nazi's were directly behind the police line in #3.

I concur. This shot gave me goosebumps...I mean that is just something else. They are all excellent, but 3 is just out of this world.

Thank you! I wish I had been closer for the shot, but I also wanted to stay out of the pepper spray!

I want to point out (speaking as one who ate my share of Pepper Spray) that these anarchists often copy tactics of Inmates with regards to pepperspray.

They will often take cayanne pepper and crush it down in a mixture of baby oil or other liquids (including urine) and put it in a container to use against the officers. Look at shot #2- do you see the containers they have? Nope- it's not Starbucks. In addition, they all have glasses to shield the cops OC (oleoresin capsicum- pepper spray) and covered mouths and noses.

    Nice group, huh!

They were throwing the cans, rocks and other items at the cops and Nazis. I was amazed that they had their own medics with milk and watered down dish soap for the pepper spray.

If you look close, I'm not sure cops have "SS" insignia on their uniforms or the WWII German emblem on their caps. Those three shaded main characters and 'the suit' are part of the protest group I believe.

Great series as I almost feel as if I was there to experience the event. thumb.gif

    Thank you!

Actually, those are the Nazis that were holding the rally. The man in the suit is the group leader. The first 3 photos are of the protesters that were upset about the Nazis holding a rally here.
