The holidays are next week. I loved what B.D. assigned to us last year to catch the essentials of thanksgiving. Can we do something similar but also somehow incoroporate those dgrinners abroad?Any ideas? Also, while I enjoyed and learned much from the last one "night shooting", the commentaries were abysmal and anticlimactic. How about, if you post a shot, it is mandatory that you comment on the others as they are posted up. Even noobs can learn from commenting. I hope that doesn't dissuade any from posting though.Any thoughts? Can we possibly vote on the favorite? and maybe the winner of the favorite gets to pick the next challenge?Yes, no, maybe?Just a plain old exercise will do too btw:)

EDIT: by saying that the commentaries were abysmal in the last exercise, I meant that there wasn't enough of them. Just FYI.

I think we're due for another exercise, though I agree that participation in the last one was disappointing. I don't want exercises here to duplicate the Challenge function on Dgrin, though. Give me a day or two to mull it over. If anyone else has suggestions, please chime in.

    I'm game.

I wasn't able to participate in the last exercise because of time restraints, but I kept it in my head and tried to take some night shots in the weeks following the close of the exercise. I will post a few night photos taken during that period shortly. Sort of a late entry.

If we come up with another exercise, I will do my best to participate. I think they are useful and fun for the participants.

That's cool. There are links to all the exercises in the sticky at the top of the forum. Unlike contests, exercises are valuable whenever you get around to them and you can repeat them as often as you like. deal.gif

    Ok.. I have one.

Photograph a street, boulevard or square near you from one end to the other, with every interesting person.. situation.. and good photo opportunity that presents itself.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but that sounds like a normal photowalk to me. ne_nau.gif

Here's a suggestion: Action: Get a shot of people doing something. Hint: sitting on a bench reading a newspaper or playing chess does not count, and neither does just walking down the street. It should convey movement or energy of some sort.

Another suggestion: animals in the city. Could be pets, wild animals, strays. People are allowed, but the story should be with the critters.

I like this and Richard's idea.
This I like because I saw Nyartholipic's posts here lately and don't take it the wrong way, but the town is a ghost town, I can see how you might want to shoot animals, there are no people!

I also rarely shoot animals, but I bet I can find a pigeon with an attitude.
Maybe it can be incorporated with Richard's idea--animals in motion.

    Just throwing stuff out.

Good idea Ny--can I call you Ny? :) Sorry, very weird mood today.

I could go with animals, though I'm not really sure I'm going to find any that aren't on leashes. rolleyes1.gif

    Other suggestions?

Nothing wrong with leashes. As long as the animal is the focal point. ;-)

It's all good! And it's not that there's no one here...I just started to get into this forum when the weather started to turn cold and people started to go inside. Right now, even wild animals are hard to come by. Those that haven't migrated south are hibernating. Maybe I didn't think that suggestion all the way through. ;-) But I will try like heck to get SOMETHING.

Truth be told, this is my first year really getting into photography. I've got a hunch that I'm going to be doing a lot of "winter wonderland" shots in the coming months. Maybe some macro... :-)

Definitely like the requirement to comment. As for an exercise, how about:
    For all "My fellow Amurkins*:"
    Post one shot from your family Thanksgiving celebration (or not) that says "Thanksgiving." Which is to say, a scene, an image, that you think perfectly captures the holiday;

For those of you beyond our borders:
Post a single image, taken this Thursday, that says NAME OF COUNTRY HERE. In other words, a single image that someone from outside your homeland would look at an instantly say, "Ah! Italy!" or "Ah! China!" or "Ah! Pakistan!" You get the idea.

This do it for you Liz? Any takers?

Well, it's kind of a rerun, but that's OK. Musicians don't get to whine that they've done that scale before. Works for me. Mmmmm...tapas. rolleyes1.gif

    Well I'm in:)
last year's were shot with a lensbaby because it was my best lens in low light rolleyes1.gif.

This year I will use my 50mm! now to go knock down some walls to accomodate the lens.

I wanted to rent the gf1 with 20mm lens, but it kills me to throw that money away instead of putting it towards further equipment for me.

    So a 50mm it is.

I'd do a toe touch to celebrate, but-- well I can't.

OK, so here's the deal. To make matters simple, I'm just going to revive the original exercise thread and edit the first post to include something for non-US residents. On Thursday, I'll create a new thread for this year's results.
