I was really excited when I saw the theme this time, knowing that the Kansas Dance Festival was coming up & I love taking dance photos & figured it could make a good collage. And to top it off, when I asked the Dean if I could shoot at dress rehearsal, he asked me to shoot the tech rehearsal also, cuz he needed some shots for the paper. First time ever - I got 2 photos published in the Wichita Eagle!
So here's my first go at an entry for this round - C&C greatly appreciated. The piece is "In October" choreographed by Denise Celestin, so I'm thinking either Dancing In October or Denise's Dance for the title. For some reason, most (not all) of the smaller photos in the collage look blurrier than the originals do - I don't understand why - all of them but the first one (the original is not very crisp of that one), and the last 2 or 3. Thoughts, suggestions?

    Congrats, lkbart!

I really like the B&W where they are all in the air.

I can see that you have balanced the lighting, red opposite red, etc. The only one that does not really appeal to me is the 1st. Do you have another one that you could swap with it?

    Congrats! on the publishing!
I don't care for the first image, mostly because it is the only one not in costume...

What a great opportunity! It's also cool that you were able to kill two birds with one stone. Nice shots.

Thanks Sandi, Linda, Trish & Whatshesaw - & thanks again to Whatshesaw for the tut on the main thread! I'm glad you saw that I was trying to balance the opposite sides & corners with color/lighting/backdrop :D

And that first shot - I tried several I had taken of warm-ups or company class & none of them really fit there very well (or were very good). I was trying to follow a story line from company class thru tech rehearsal (the top row are all warm-ups) thru dress rehearsal & performance thru to the director's critique at the end.

Final performance is tonight, so I may try & slip in early (like somebody on crutches can "slip in" anywhere!) to see if I can get a better company class shot. Otherwise, I will just fill it in with a different shot anyway. I redid the collage with the PhotoScape software & thought I had posted it here last night when I posted in the gallery - I'm sure I missed something somewhere. It is cropped less & I actually like it better, but still think I need to go with a different first shot.
