Organising; galleries, categories, sub categories

Maybe it's just me but I'm having a real tough time organising and arranging my shots on Smugmug.

The first problem I have is that I don't have a good, easy overview of the hierarchy.

The second is that the Category->Sub-category->album structure doesn't allow me enough depth for my organising. I don't want to go incredibly deep but 3 levels isn't enough. I could do with another one or two at least.

And finally, the idea of a a sub category being different to a category is making it kind of difficult to move stuff around. I have, for example, a category and it's up at the top level. I'm happy with all the albums I have in it but I'm not happy with it being at the top level so I want to move it down into a category. It seems I can't do this without converting it to a sub-category and I don't see any tools for converting. Same goes if I want to move a sub-category up to the top level.

Flickr do this too, they make distinctions between objects that are basically the same. Surely a directory structure where the only objects are folders and images would have been more flexible, where you can have any depth you like and anything can go anywhere?

Either way, all I really want is an easy way to organise, just drag categories and sub categories around, put them where I want and be able to see how I'm affecting my hierarchy. Can I do that? am I missing something blindingly obvious.

thanks.

Not sure you can drag them around but Here is what StarExplorer looks like with categories, sub-cat and albums. Shows a nice map of your site. There may be some other tools that show or allow you to manipulate the structure easier.

For now (as you've seen) you only have three levels - category, subcategory, gallery.

The best you can do is be creative with your categories. Or you could use HTML-only galleries to drive what appears to be more levels. For an example, take a look at Allen's tutorial at http://allen-steve.smugmug.com/gallery/4776685_46R9o.
