Dat's Photography went out to the Bobsleigh World Cup 2010 in Calgary Alberta Canada. At the time of the race the weather was -25c or -13F. Kind of cold but I got some good photographs I think:D

#3 Converted to B&W then brush in colour using Photoshop 5
#4 Using CS5 make copy's of original photo then move image back then brush away the parts that you don,t wont
#5 same as #4 but used OneOne plugin and gave the photo more motion blur.
If you wont me to go into more detail just PM me and I will be happy to help you out.
P.S I didn't use flash as I was thinking it was not a good idea to blind the driver with a flash:D

Very cool shots. On those first three, were you using servo-mode AF? That not easy to focus on something moving toward you so fast.

In order to get the best focus I pre focused on a spot in the track then used high speed shutter and started shooting before the bob sleighed got to the point in the track and and after the spot. Then weed out the unfocused photos in post.

Nice shots. Really get the sense of speed and movement from the shots. It is not as smooth as it looks on TV.

    Hi
No it is not so smooth. At the track you can get really close to the action and see and hear how rough it is and the noise the bobsleds make is something else you can hear them long before you can see them. I looked up this question: How fast can a bobsled go? the answer I got was: Today's top bobsled teams reach speeds of more than 90 m.p.h. and can pull 5Gs while careening around banked corners. At the track you can take a 60sec ride for $100.00 the money goes to help the team. So far I haven't had the guts to do this.eek7.gif

Great shots, both the motion burs and the still action. Love the shot with the sled in the air! I use your prefocus technique in shooting gymnastics for the Vault. Allows for some pretty cool action shots.
Let's face it; more gear than sense.

    Canon 7D... Canon 70-200/2.8L IS... Canon 28-70/2.8L... Canon 135/f2L... Canon 85/1.8... Canon 50/1.4... Canon 28/1.8

I did that at the Park City Utah one, might be wrong town but the one let over from when the Winter Olympics were in Salt Lake City. It was a very rough, bouncy, forceful ride. If you like roller coaster, no problem at all. If you don't well might want to watch. The hardest part for me was holding my head up around turns, the Gs are that pervassive.

It was a blast and I highly recommend it. It was so intense, 8/10 of a mile in 53.77 seconds. 15 Turns, the maximum of about 80MPH and 5G’s in turn 6. It was more of a rush then a roller coaster as the whole experience was much more basic. Just the basic conveyance, you could hear the runners sliding and scraping. You could feel the wind and pretty much you were holding on, there was no seat per se. Also since this was a work event the best part was that I was in the fastest sled. :D
