Whale in the Fog
Hi! This is my first post but I have been lurking for a while. I went on a whale watching tour off of Tofino, Vancouver Island, BC this last August. We were lucky enough to see a calf and his mother. The calf was feeling his oats and breached quite a few times in the short time we were watching.
I have been playing around with the photos and am just not very pleased. Any suggestions on how to deal with the fog?
I am not very experienced with post processing but keep working at it. I have CS3 and LR3. Any suggestions on how to make this photo better would be appreciated. Should I ever get back and have to deal with the same environment, is there something I could do in camera to make it easier to deal with the fog? Thanks!

I'm not great at post processing, but this is what I came up with in a couple of minutes of playing. Basically I've straightened the horizon, and played around with the tone curve and added clarity using the spot adjustment tool to the whale.
Depending on the size of your original photo, I would probably crop in much closer to the whale as well.
