G'day playe..i recon it (cropping) would certainly help to tighten it up. For me the lamp & lounge as well as that red object in the background is distracting.
I would even re-shoot it with the lamp away from his head & maybe something neutral as a background.
Well...........reshooting is always good...cropping helps as does selecting background darkening it and adding a gaussian blur and bringing the boy up a little with gentle curves:

Depending on what you are after, you could do something like this.
This is a very quick and dodgy job but with a bit of effort you could get a great outcome.
