Hello folks. Some osprey portraits I thought I would share with you. All taken from the boat on the local waters near Venice Florida. Thanks for looking.

Cheers.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Ric. The images with the nictitating membrane closed and half open/closed were interesting. I believe there was an insect hatch on the water and these little buggers kept triggering the membrane. The osprey didn't seem to be too pleased with the bugs.

The image with the osprey "scratching" ..well..that goes without saying. It's always fun until someone loses an eye. An osprey needs to be very very careful when scratching an itch.

Just terrific. Could not pick a favorite. When you say these were shot from a boat, are they hand held shots or did you have a tripod on the boat? Best, Pam

Hey Stranger, Thanks Gale. The ospreys NEVER leave . My local buds are around all year. :ivar They will be starting the nest refurbishing soon and then the dirty bird behavior followed by chicks. I can't wait. Won't be long now.

Thanks Pam. I ALWAYS shoot hand held from the boat. The waters down here are not very calm. I usually experience a 2'-3' chop. A tripod just makes the rocking worse. I took a tripod out the first time and the thought of one has not crossed my mind since. Even on land I can't wait for the sun to rise enough to get rid of it (tripod). I'll use one from land .....but don't like them.

Thanks David. I have a pretty good idea what I have in my backyard. I see more birds in a day here than I use to see all year where I use to live. Paradise of feathered friends .:ivar

Super series, Mike. They look like family portraits, albeit comical ones. That ear-scratch is a hoot.
