Sales Tax on a Bridal Show??

A local Bridal Show requires payment of sales tax. I've never heard of this before. I've never been required to pay previously. No other show in the area has this requirement.
I asked why they collect sales tax and the response is that the state says that they are actually renting the tables (the company that runs the show doesn't just do bridal shows. They also do events (such as renting equipment, tables, chairs, etc... for weddings and other events).
Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this.
