keywords and Password protected galleries

I have a few password protected galleries. When I am logged in and looking at the galleries the keyword list is visible and I can use the keywords. When a client goes to the gallery, the keyword list is not visible and therefore they cannot use the keywords.

Is this a "feature" of a password protected gallery or do I have some setting set incorrectly?

So a work round for searchable folders maybe: If I was logged in all the time my customers could search their folders?

No. You're logged in for your session; your customers are not logged in to your site.
