Stacking filters

Sorry if this was asked and answered before. I have a UV filter on both of my lenses, 18-55 and 55-200. My question is, can I stack a polarizer on the top of the UV? The reason I ask is that I can not get the UV off of the 18-55. It seems to be on real tight and I do not want to force it and break the lens internals. I am shooting with a Nikon D40. Thanks in advance for your help.

While there are occasions where I do use two filters at a time - say a Neutral density and a Circular polarizer for shooting waterfalls - I generally do not recommend multiple filters. Too many reflecting surfaces offering the possibility of lens flare and loss of contrast. Multiple filters are particularly poor for complex zoom lenses which have more lens elements and surfaces as well.

Lens filter wrenches are real cheap, and can be obtined from B&W or Adorama, or maybe your local camera store.
