Tweet button doesn't shorten URL

I was running a test on the Tweet buttons that now appear beneath each photo (nice feature, BTW). When I click on the Tweet button the message box comes up with the URL shortened using Twitter's URL shortener. I modified the message (not touching the shortened URL) and posted the Tweet. It comes up with the full (and somewhat ugly) URL in the Tweet as it appears in the stream. Anyone else getting this? If you look at my Twitter page (http://twitter.com/daylightimages) you'll see two SmugMug posts there -- the most recent was using the Tweet button beneath the photo (the one that begins "N&W 1218...") and the one six minutes prior to it was done with the get social button in the upper right of the gallery page, which also yields the long URL.

Thanks.

EDIT: I was running a test on hashtags (#) simultaneously, and when I checked my supposedly shortened URL tweet at hashtags.org the shortened URL appeared there. Now I'm really confused...
