Watermark problems.

So I'm trying to change my watermark to a new one. The problem that I am getting is the size of the watermark. I uploaded a high res .png of it but that made it to big on the pictures. I was finally able to upload it at about the right size that I wanted... But now it just doesn't look to have very good quality.

Here is a picture that currently has the watermark I want.

What am I doing wrong, or what should I do to get a watermark about that size, yet still be sharp and crisp?

    Hey Parker,

First of all, I love the watermark! I took a look at the four version that you have in your gallery and I see that the original files for these are pretty small, the largest being about 331 pixels on the longest side. This is probably why the image doesn't look as sharp as you'd like it to be.

Have you tried maybe making a large image that is closer to the size of your original photos (maybe 1000 - 1500 pixels wide), but just put the text in the right hand side of the image? It won't be "square" but since the background will be transparent it'll look like the text is floating in the corner of your photos after it's applied. Note that you may want to make a separate watermark with slightly different dimensions for portrait-oriented photos.

Here's an example of a watermark for a landscape-oriented photo. In this photo the watermark file is 2576 x 348 but as you can see it has shrunk down when it was applied which means it scales up pretty well, too.

Watermarking may take a couple of tries to get it just right but it's important to find the balance that works right for you. Let us know if you're still stuck or need any help!

    Ah!

That's it. See I knew I was forgetting something. I previously set up a watermark no problem.. but through all the junk that has went through my head I totally forgot what I had to do.

Only thing I wish is that smugmug had way to handle 2 watermarks for portrait and landscape... You upload 2 and tell it anything from aaaaxbbbb use watermark A and anything from ccccxdddd use watermark B.

    Thanks for the help!
