Dgrin Sharp Shooters Challenge #65

Welcome to Round #65 of the Dgrin Sharp Shooters Challenges. This challenge is open to any Dgrin member that is not eligible to compete in Mega Challenge #10.
It will run from Monday, November 29, 7:00pm PST time (GMT -8) on through Monday, December 13, 7:00pm PST time (GMT -8).

The topic ready for your interpretation: Freeze or Flow [OFO]

[OFO], means that you are allowed to shoot your interpretation of freeze or flow with ONE FRAME ONLY.
Multiple images merged together, multiple exposures, focus stacks, HDR, or composites etc... are NOT allowed
You may shoot in RAW or jpg. You also may use the same image multiple times as an adjustment layer or to achieve an effect.
You may not use pieces of the same image as a building block to create something altogether different.

There are no editing restrictions other than what has been outlined above, in this round.

Your Judge:
1 round 72 Hour Public Vote.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your entry is to be submitted directly into a SmugMug gallery. It's pretty simple, just go to the gallery link below, and follow the upload instructions at the top of the page: Remember, the basics stay the same: 1 entry per person, and the photo must be fresh, taken during this contest period. Do not use a minimal save method (such as "save for web"), and your main EXIF will be embedded in your image, no worries!

To avoid disqualification, read, in full, the Dgrin Sharp Shooters Challenge Rules, there have been some recent modifications

One frame only to indicate the freeze or flow, but may I use, say, a texture layer (say a photo of gravel) when editing? I obviously have NO IDEA what to shoot yet, but just wanna ask!

On dgrin... you don't. If you mean on Smugmug, it isn't free.
What Sean meant (I think) was that to sign up and be on Dgrin, to have an account with a name, like your name is Jenn, is free to anyone. You have to have that account to submit photos to the Smugmug gallery that hosts the Dgrin challenges.

I don't ever enter the contests cus I'm usually too slow but I'd like you guys to know this one inspired me... and then ruined me lol.

I thought it would be cool to do a "fake" double exposure for freezing motion and then having it flow and here's what I ended up with after a dozen shots lol. (i kept digressing with each shot lol)

    5230310574_d4e8332504_z.jpg

So yeah, I'm still not going to enter. Just thought I'd let you guys the "freeze or flow" really got my creative juices flowing lol

    EDIT:
Oh, and I followed the rules for single frame and exposure etc.

    EDIT 2:
This shot is a huge harry potter reference too. I actually have a serious black wand from olivanders in florida lol

...and why wouldn't you enter? You obviously felt it was worth showing us. I am very happy you did by the way. How will you ever know how good or bad your idea is unless you put it into the voting process?

I commend you for taking the time to push yourself to be creative clap.gif
    Hopefully you will reconsider entering.

Not the same at all. SmugMug is our major sponsor and has been very generous in putting up the awesome prizes for the challenges. Along with Bay Photo and LensBaby who also have been awesome sponsors for the Mega challenge prize packages.

Where you may have become confused is DGrin is a free public forum that was started by the same founders as SmugMug. We are also using SmugMug as a place for the entries to the challenges to be submitted. Thanks SmugMug for all your help in making these challenges possible. clap.gif

I'd like to do something for this challenge, but can't really come up with anything, yet. We've had some frost, but nothing to write home about, so I was wondering if you could give me an idea of what you mean by 'flow' in the theme?

What does Flow mean to you? That is what you should be concentrating on.
Remember it is OR, I do not disqualify for entries that try to do both themes but typically trying to encompass both usually weakens the message. Concentrating on one or the other makes for a stronger message or story.

    Flow of air
    Flow of water
    Flowing hair
The waitress at the diner named "Flow"?

Okay admittedly the last example is quite bad but my point is Flow can mean what ever you want it to mean. You have the creative steering wheel. Do not tell me that you need to have a specific definition to shoot; if you do then use the dictionary or a search engine to look up the word and pick the one that works for you.

Try not to let the themes put your imagination inside a box. Let your imagination "Flow" mwink.gif

Freeze doesn't necessarily mean snow or frost, either. I'm sure you have a freezer. Freeze can also mean immobilize. There are pay freezes and hiring freezes and computers that freeze. And cops telling the bad guys to freeze. It's enough to freeze your blood. :D

I'm channeling Forrest Gump's friend, Bubba.

The photo i took is something i have never seen before, i was at a lake for the day and there where millions of these crystals all over the
frozen water, it was like "spiky white grass for the lake" lol.
