What a photo! Joel, how in the world did that happen? And that's a big lens to start with--how heavy was the bird? Great fun photo! A total conversation stopper! Best, Pam

This is just pure win!
Awesome, that there was someone around to record the moment!
Thanks, folks!
This happened on my day out shooting with the Hawkers. The hawk just flew over and decided that my lens looked like a comfortable spot to rest. One of the guys took this shot with his Blackberry, and just emailed it to me today. I was floored by the quality of this shot from a Blackberry. It'll be a treasure now.
Oh, and the bird only weighs maybe a couple or three pounds. Hardly even noticeable on that heavy lens. Amazing the little sucker can take down a full grown jack rabbit though.
That's too funny. It's always interesting to see what wildlife is going to do when photographers are present. Nice catch.
I'm not sure if this is a raise to yours or not...but none the less...this was the most AMAZING thing I've been around to see in all my years of chasing birds. I took my friend Marina out in my boat to shoot some of my ospreys (wild). This juvenile flegged for the first time and got scarred it couldn't make it to shore. It headed right at us in the boat and decided to land on my friends head. I wish I had a wide angle lens on at the time so I could get the whole bird. The bird stayed on her head for several minutes before taking off. Truly amazing.
That is sweet, Mike! Great shots too. Good thing she was further away than the minimum focus distance of your lens. Would have been a real pity to miss that. Beautiful bird!
Thanks Joel. It was lucky I got anything at all. I was on the bow of the boat and she was standing next to the center console. She's my kind of woman. Instead of screaming ...she was "quick..get a shot". "it's talons are killing me..get a shot..get a shot" . I had to stitch 2 shots together to get what I got. I could not get a full wing spread. What I wouldn't give to have that whole wing spread landing shot. Things just happened too fast . I told her she needs to be very nice to me from now on or I'll tell everyone that didn't happen and I photoshoped that image.
