I have received my Poyomi book order from Magcloud, and as promised will now give you my initial observations.

The cover image sucks, quality detail......OH wait, poor blurry image, that's my fault!

I rushed the process and didn't maximize the lay out image sequence as well as I could have.

The packing is woefully inadequate. 5 out of ten books have the top right corner creased. This really needs to be addressed. If this were a large order or other than a test run I would be asking for a reprint.

That said, the basic imagery is, in my opinion, very good for the price point!

Based on the image quality and price point I believe it will be worth the effort to figure out how to work with Poyomi and / or Magcloud.

As discussed in an other thread Poyomi does need to provide some additional layout / text tools, and flexibility in order to gain this market segment.

I think that with a few more tools and removal of third party branding this will a GREAT service to use.

We could offer our small business customers custom marketing materials at reasonable price points for small quantities.

I can see printing brochures, magazines / books / portfolio / marketing material, etc.

At this point I don't think special off line software in necessary. It looks like the whole thing could be put together off line once the additional tools are understood. Then uploaded and shuffled around to get the desired layout.

In summary I see lots of potential here. Hope the potential turns into reality!!

I just opened up my Poyomi book and...

I have to say, I am impressed (and I consider myself to have pretty high standards.

I agree with Sam that the packaging is a little flimsy. It's a magazine mailer - which is what MagCloud does - magazines. Their intent was probably not what we're trying to do here. I didn't, however, have any issues with damage. Nice and neat.

Print Quality: 8.5/10 (10 being a lab quality photograph). I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Looks like decent paper. Colors are true. Binding is very nice. (I went with the more expensive binding).

I will be using Poyomi again for printing books. I'd like to see a bit more product maturity (which will come) - especially in layout flexibility, and some of the other things discussed in the other thread. I am very happy with this product. I've printed a book from Mixbook, and while I like their layout/design tools MUCH better, the print quality of Poyomi/MagCloud blows MixBook out of the water.

Thanks! And Congratulations on a nice product.

Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.

Why do people post their equipment in their sig. Isn't it kind of like bragging? That having been said...

Cool, great that you like the print quality! We're also inspecting what could have gone wrong with the packaging during shipping. And I'll let you know when we have more design tools available, let's say early next year.

Looking forward to the additional tools. Nothing actually went wrong.........the mailer isn't up to the task.
